The National Sports Day 2026 was celebrated with great pomp and enthusiasm by the Department of Physical Education, RKMV on 29 August 2026 to commemorate the birth anniversary of the legendary Indian hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. The celebration witnessed an enthusiastic participation of 2000 students representing different faculties of the college.

The programme commenced with a motivational address by the Principal, Dr. Anurita Saxena, who encouraged the students to actively participate in sports and highlighted the importance of physical fitness, discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship in student life. She also emphasised that active participation in sports keeps youth away from substance abuse, promotes physical and mental well-being, and contributes to building a healthy, disciplined, and drug-free society.

As a mark of respect to Major Dhyan Chand, homage was paid by the Principal and faculty members through the showering of flowers, remembering his outstanding contribution to Indian hockey and his inspiring legacy in the field of sports.

A variety of sporting, recreational and team-building activities were organised which includes Baton Relay , Carom, Chess, X-Country, Tug-of-War, Fun Games and Table Tennis.

Students and staff members participated enthusiastically in all the activities creating an atmosphere of healthy competition, teamwork and camaraderie.
The 15-day Fitness Camp, “Fit to Win: Pathway to Sports Excellence,” organised by the Department of Physical Education, also concluded on the occasion. The successful completion of the camp reflected the department’s continued commitment towards promoting fitness, sports participation and a healthy lifestyle among students.
The celebration concluded on a highly energetic and positive note, reinforcing the message that sports build character, strengthen teamwork and inspire excellence.
